The Mission...

The mission of ECHO 8 is to inspire participants in leading the next generation to improve overall health and fitness and to become stewards of the natural world. ECHO 8 programs will provide valuable training and education in nutrition, first aid, exercise science, & outdoor skills in a fun and challenging environment of adventure-learning activities, team-building and leadership exercises, and environmental service projects. Participants will build self-efficacy as they learn and meet the challenges of ECHO 8 programs. We strive to give participants the tools, knowledge, and skills necessary to travel and play in the outdoors safely and responsibly. Our hope is that participants will foster a love for the outdoors and develop new interests that will lead them to a healthy and active lifestyle.

- amplify your 8th intelligence

What is 8th Intelligence?

To simply put it, it's a Naturalistic Intelligence...or, in other words...Nature Smart!
It can be defined as a strong affinity to the outside world (animals, rocks, trees, etc.)

Aaron Ogden

Aaron Ogden was born and reared in the Rocky Mountains of Salt Lake City. Since his youth he has been active in the outdoors and involved in competitive sports. He currently enjoys back-country skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, back packing, and adventure racing. He has a great passion for fitness and health. In his family, the running joke is how long will it be before the dinner conversation turns to health and fitness. Aaron has an Exercise Science Degree from the University of Utah, is certified in Wilderness First Aid, and is currently getting a Master Herbalist degree.

Brady Campbell

Brady Campbell describes himself as an alpinist who likes the physical and technical challenges of climbing high peaks. Brady worked for two years as a guide and field leader for an adventure-therapy program for at-risk youth. There he led expeditions throughout Utah in rock climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, mountain biking, canyoneering, skiing, etc. He also trained staff in technical skills and safety. Brady has worked extensively with youth. He has a bachelor’s degree in music education and spent six years teaching band and choir to both middle and high school students. Brady is an avid runner and has over eight years of experience coaching track and cross-country. Brady is a goal-oriented individual. In addition to his outdoor and physical pursuits, Brady is a good cook, and (to the disbelief of most who know him) has an amazing tenor voice. Fundamentally, though, Brady remains a teacher who loves sharing his skills and a love for the outdoors with students. Brady is certified in Avalanche Safety: Level II, First Aid, CPR, and is a Wilderness First Responder.

Marlayne Pope

Marlayne Pope has a degree in Recreational Therapy from BYU. She has spent 5 years working with youth. Marlayne worked as a guide for an adventure therapy program where she also organized and implemented parent-youth seminars and programs. Marlayne is an avid swimmer and participates regularly in triathlons. She is certified in First Aid, CPR and is a Lifeguard Instructor and Wilderness First Responder. Marlayne will begin pursuing a degree in drug and alcohol counseling at the University of Utah this fall.

Mike Bevers

A native of England, Mike Bevers, developed his passion for the outdoors as a member of the scouting movement. He achieved the Queen’s Scout Award and later became a guide for Outward Bound. He has traveled throughout Australia, New Zealand, Eastern Europe, and North America facilitating learning experiences for young people using the outdoors. Mike finds time to train and run marathons, cycles, and enjoys hiking through Utah. He lives in Salt Lake City with his wife and 21 year-old daughter. Mike is certified in First Aid, CPR, and as a Wilderness First Responder. He also holds a current ropes course certification and has more than 15 years experience in team building and in guiding groups of young people in wilderness areas throughout the world.

Jared Ogden

Jared Ogden could easily call himself a child trapped in a grown up body! He is a Utah native that has been involved in outdoor activities & competitive sports ever since he was little. The variety of activities he participates in are too many to list, but to give you an idea how he feels...he considers Utah to be his playground! His career background is mainly business, working as a store manager, project manager, & sales representative. He spent one summer as an Especially For Youth counselor for the Church Education System, and as a result fell in love with working with youth. He has a Bachelors in Mass Communication. He received his Eagle Scout award when he was just 13 years old. And last, but not least, has a wonderful wife and an adorable 18 month old boy.

Sharon Carter (Volunteer)

As a kid, Sharon Carter was always outside—on roller skates, on swings, or climbing trees. After a period of being sedentary, Sharon has come full circle to being happiest when she is moving and outside. Sharon became passionate about nutrition in her teens and has remained involved ever since. She earned a degree in Family and Consumer Science, with an emphasis in Food Science and Nutrition. During college, Sharon loved to play in the gorgeous red rock of Brian Head and Zion. Sharon has spent the past eight years in the health food industry, educating people in the fundamentals of nutrition and supplements. Sharon loves exercise, running and all types of sports; she finds them to be the best therapy and refuge. She ran her first half marathon last year and is anxious to run a full marathon very soon. She is excited to help others discover the great quality of life that comes with living an active, healthy lifestyle.
